Our Horticultural Attempts Dan and I have attempted to grow many things in our yard. Most of them have been successful. Well, except for the 10 or so out of 20-some altheas we killed and two of our three sage bushes that died. Other than that, we are doing pretty good! In our yard, we currently have the following plants:
Our Yard In Bloom
Critters We attempt to grow everything in our yard organically to encourage a balanced eco-system in our yard. As a result, Dan and I have found lots of things around our yard - spiders, frogs, butterflies, hummingbirds, earthworms, and even praying mantises and bunnies!
In 2004, we had a good number of large Garden Spiders that have decided that our yard was an all-you-can-eat-buffet of buggies - and they were right. They were the one thing that helped keep the grasshopper population in control that year. Of course, it didn't hurt that Dan and I would feed any grasshoppers we'd find to one of our 6 "pet" garden spiders. Watching the spiders catch and wrap up the grasshoppers was like having our own nature show. Who needs the Discovery Channel when we have our back yard?
